Privacy policy
This policy explains what happens to information when you use the FireMETAR app for Android and this website. Both are published by Frédéric Vagner, France (contact below).
What the app does not collect
FireMETAR does not ask for, collect or store any personal information: no account, no name, no e-mail address, no location, no contacts, no device identifier, no advertising identifier. The app contains no advertising, no analytics and no tracking tools.
What the app sends
To display weather reports, the app sends the list of airfield codes you follow (for example LFPG,EGLL) to our server firemetar.eu over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). This list is not linked to you or to your device. The server answers with the METAR and TAF of these airfields, which it obtains from the NOAA / NWS Aviation Weather Center (aviationweather.gov). Your device never contacts the Aviation Weather Center directly.
Server logs
Like any web server, firemetar.eu keeps technical access logs (IP address, date and time, requested address, browser or app version) for security and troubleshooting, on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service running. They are kept for a limited time, are not used to identify or profile users, and are not shared with anyone.
What stays on your phone
Your list of airfields and the last weather data received are stored on your device only, so that the app works offline. Uninstalling the app deletes them. If you tap the location button and allow it, the app reads your approximate position to compute sunrise and sunset and find the nearest airfield. That position is kept on your phone only and is never sent to our server or to anyone else.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party resources: fonts and images are served from firemetar.eu itself. Your language choice is remembered in your browser only. Links to Google Play and other sites are subject to those sites' own policies.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent or share any information with third parties, except where required by law.
Children
FireMETAR is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to, correction or deletion of any personal data we might hold about you (in practice, only server logs). Write to the contact address below. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr).
Changes
Any change to this policy will be published on this page with a new date.
